How does partial filling of orders work?

Modified on Wed, 5 Jun at 12:00 PM

This occurs when only some of the shares have filled in a placed ore.

For example:

  • A seller places a sell order for 3,000 shares at R5.00.
  • A buyer places a buy order to purchase 1,700 shares at R5.00.

The order will match and a trade will take place.

  • The buyer’s full order of 1,700 shares will be filled.
  • The seller’s order will be partially filled by 1,700 shares. This leaves the seller with an active sell order in the market of 1,300 shares at R5.00.
