What causes share prices to change?

Modified on Tue, 4 Jun at 11:33 AM

There are multiple factors that may influence movements in the share price of an issuer. Buyers or sellers will amongst others consider the following when deciding whether or not and when to buy or sell their shares:

  • Past performance and earnings of the issuer and its share price;

  • The price and value of the share;

  • Liquidity and tradability/transferability of the issuer shares; and

  • The state of the South African economy.
